Mike Hill Fellowship
The Mike Hill Fellowship is an endowed fellowship initiated in 2001 to honor Mike Hill鈥檚 thirty-seven years of public service in behalf of the citizens of 麻豆传媒映画出品 and Sedgwick County. After rising over a period of twenty-one years from beat officer to Commander of Special Investigations in the 麻豆传媒映画出品 Police Department, Mike Hill was elected Sheriff of Sedgwick County in 1984 and reelected to that office for three additional terms. Throughout his public service, Mike Hill provided a model of excellence in the management of law enforcement operations. The Mike Hill Fellowship is intended to provide financial assistance to individuals with education and experience in law enforcement who seek to advance in the field of public management and complete the Master of Public Administration degree.
Guidelines
1. Applicants must be graduate students admitted in full standing to the Master of
Public Administration program at 麻豆传媒映画出品 and have education and experience
in law enforcement. Applicants must also indicate their plans for enrollment in each
semester during the academic year for which they are applying.
2. Two fellowships are expected to be awarded annually. The fellowship award will be equally divided between the fall and spring semesters. An average academic year fellowship award totals $1,000.
3. Selection is based on undergraduate record, demonstrated leadership abilities, and potential for a successful career in public management. Selection will be made without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, status as a veteran, or disability. Priority in selection will be given to state and federally certified law enforcement officers.
4. Recommendations for the fellowship award will be made by a committee comprised of the Sedgwick County Sheriff, the 麻豆传媒映画出品 Police Chief, and the Hugo Wall School Director.
5. Applications are due February 15 in the Hugo Wall School of Public Affairs to be considered for the following academic year. Application materials include: a completed application, a cover letter outlining the applicant鈥檚 interest in the fellowship award and career interests in city or county management, a r茅sum茅 and two letters of recommendation.
