Health Science

The Bachelor of Science in Health Science (BSHS) is a pre-professional degree providing a foundation for a clinical healthcare career. It develops critical thinking skills in healthcare services, population health, disease, patient communication, and leadership, and helps fulfill prerequisites for clinical programs. Unlike basic sciences, it specifically focuses on health-related topics. Graduates often pursue professional or graduate degrees in nursing, dental hygiene, medical laboratory science, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, optometry, dentistry, medicine, and other clinical health professions.

Overall employment in clinical healthcare occupations is projected to grow much faster than average from 2022 to 2032, with about 1.8 million openings annually due to growth and worker replacement. In May 2023, the median annual wage for healthcare practitioners and technical occupations was $80,820, significantly higher than the median for all occupations at $48,060, while healthcare support occupations had a median wage of $36,140.
