Feb. 11, 2022 鈥 As a young boy growing up in Oklahoma City Nicolas Reyes loved to hear the hum of the fighter jets from the nearby Tinker Air Force Base. Nicolas Reyes 鈥 a junior studying electrical engineering in 麻豆传媒映画出品 State鈥檚 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering 鈥 has always wanted to work in the aviation industry. He finally got his chance this past summer when he completed a virtual internship with Lockheed Martin. While there, Nicolas worked on the F-35 Lightning II for their location in Fort Worth.

Dec. 9, 2021 -- Khalid Raza has never forgotten his Shocker roots. Now the chief executive officer of Graphiant, a next-generation networking technology company based in San Francisco, Raza鈥檚 first independent start-up began in 1992 when he was working as a graduate assistant at 麻豆传媒映画出品.

Dec. 8, 2021鈥 Joyce Chiam, an international student from Malaysia, is earning her degree in industrial engineering with a minor in mathematics from 麻豆传媒映画出品 State. Through the encouragement of her peers, she has learned how to thrive in an academic environment far away from home. Chiam is one of more than 1,100 students eligible for fall 2021 graduation.

Dec. 7, 2021 鈥 Since its inception, the National Institute for Aviation Research鈥檚 digital twin program has been rife with opportunities to progress research, digital transformation, engineering technology and sustainability efforts. Sept. 8, 2021 鈥 WERX at 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) has received its first Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft. As part of its rapidly growing Maintenance Repair and Overhaul program, WSU-NIAR WERX, in conjunction with Kansas Modification Center, will convert the passenger aircraft into a freighter that will be transferred to an external client to meet the growing needs of the e-commerce and express cargo market.

Dr. Ajita Rattani, assistant professor in the College of Engineering's School of Computing, has been awarded $200,000 by the NSF to study fairness in facial recognition software.

Aug. 2, 2021 鈥 The National Science Foundation has awarded a $200,000 grant to Dr. Ajita Rattani, an assistant professor in the College of Engineering鈥檚 School of Computing, that seeks to improve facial recognition technology, addressing civil liberties concerns that some demographic groups are more likely to be misidentified.

July 12, 2021 鈥 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 partnership with the Advanced Robotics Manufacturing Institute (ARM) has resulted in the Department of Engineering Technology being among the first programs in the nation to earn an ARM endorsement for their mechatronics track 鈥 a certification that will translate to stronger job prospects for graduates.

July 9, 2021 -- Dr. Anthony Muscat has been named dean of 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 College of Engineering, effective July 25. Muscat is a professor and chair of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Arizona, where he has been since 1998.

July 6, 2021 - Gianluca Gabriele, 17, is an incoming freshman who plans to major in biomedical engineering at 麻豆传媒映画出品. Rowing is his passion, and he will spend the summer under consideration for both the 2024 summer Paralympic and Olympic training teams for the United States. When he returns to 麻豆传媒映画出品 State later this summer, he will join the Shockers crew team.

June 23, 2021 - In 1977, a 麻豆传媒映画出品n watched Star Wars at the Mall theater on East Harry. He returned again and again that summer to watch the lightsaber battles, Jedi Knights and X-wing starfighters. 鈥淚鈥檓 an original Star Wars guy,鈥 Tim Fisher said. 鈥淚 was just mesmerized. It sparked that 鈥榃hat is possible? What can we do?鈥欌 Decades later, Fisher is one of the people helping answer those questions for the United States and the entire world in space. He is chief engineer for NASA鈥檚 Gateway program, part of the agency鈥檚 quest to return to the Moon and explore Mars.

June 22, 2021 - Joe Jabara doesn鈥檛 call his class Hacking 101, but his students do learn how to develop effective attacks on computer systems. The course is actually called Applied Computing Intermediate Design Project, and this past spring its students carried out phishing attempts against a targeted group of 麻豆传媒映画出品 faculty, staff and students.

June 7, 2021 鈥 Five-year-old Ford Hall has had to overcome more in his short life than most do in a lifetime. That鈥檚 because immediately after he was born, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The doctors informed his mother he would probably never be able to walk. 鈥淚t was that conversation with that doctor that really lit a fire in us,鈥 said Cori Hall, Ford鈥檚 mother.

April 15 -- Competing in the 2019 Distinguished Scholarship Invitational and winning a Gore Scholarshiphs allowed Anna Tri to focus on her studies without worrying about the costs of college.

Wallace Scholars

April 14, 2021 - 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 College of Engineering has named the latest group of high school seniors to be awarded Wallace Scholarships worth $285,000. Wallace Scholarship recipients will receive $28,500 each to attend 麻豆传媒映画出品 State for four years. In addition, one student already receiving the Gore Scholarship also will be designated as a Wallace Scholar.
